NH’s Rank on committment to local foods! Let’s hear fish, fish, fish…

Why is Local Food important and where does NH rank nationally?
Check out How Does Your State Rank on Its Commitment to Local Foods?

It’s not often we see seafood mentioned in conversations about food  but that is changing fast and will more so, especially here in NH!!! The vision of locally caught fish will soon be more real and available from our few remaining community fishing businesses. Aside from F/V Rimrack seafood off-the-boat, this alternative direct model will offer CSF’s (community supported fisheries and similar to farm CSA’s) from a variety of  boats. We are sure to have significant impact on NH commitment to local food.

You can read more about this very exciting and innovative plan by our NH fishing industry through a Multi-Stakeholder Cooperative called NH Community Seafood.  We would be most appreciative if you  take the time to share what you think about this concept at that site!

Scallop Season Update

The day has finally come to close the scallop business and head off for Hyannis/Nantucket/Vineyard for squid fishing. We usually stay down there until early June, but as fishing is a constantly changing business, we never have set schedules or dates.

For now, our plans are to return in early June and continue scalloping if there is a healthy supply along with herring fishing when the season opens sometime in July. Please check in with us then!

It was a wonderful season seeing returning friends (many of you coming from 2+ hours) and  new ‘first-timers’ !! We hope you enjoyed our catches and if lucky enough to have any scallops left to freeze, continue to  have great delicious meals until we are able to go again!

We appreciate the support of our communities to help us continue to do what we love doing….fishing!

Thursday Update

Good morning Scallops!

sunrise

Today or Sunday, is most likely our last day out for scallops off-the-boat.  It’s looking more likely that we will be heading to the Cape early next week until June.

Thursday Rye Harbor landing ETA 7pm.

Yesterdays scallops were definitely one of the best and beautiful runs so far this year. Hoping for the same today!!! Sanders Fish Market grabbed a large amount of these jewels if you can’t make it to the dock.

We recommend reserving your order , especially if you are driving any distance :)

Wednesday Update

RR maintenanceThe past few days, the boat got some well-deserved care…..Capt Mike and Tyler hit the wheelhouse, engine and generator serviced and cleaned, a little fiberglass work,  pin boards painted, welding on the dredge, and a few  other misc items crossed off the list. The picture captures our special technique of power washing and drying wheelhouse rugs. Nothing like a couple days off!!

We are back out  today and expect a 7 pm ETA for scallops off-the-boat tonight.

We recommend that you call to reserve your orders  603.343.1500, especially if you are driving any distance.

As a reminder, we will be heading off to the Cape the next week or so,  to go squid fishing, until early June.

This might be a good opportunity to think about banking  your scallops for the freezer which are about the best seafood (along with squid) to freeze.

We hope that we can resume  scallop fishing on our return in June, at least a couple days a week, but that will be a ‘wait and see’, depending on scallop availability.

*Scallop Season Update*

IMG_0603 Stay tuned  week of April 15th for scallop off-the-boat- trips on a daily basis.

Scallop trips may be limited to  a only few days next week as we start to get ready to head off to the Cape the next week or so,  to go squid fishing, until early June.

This might be a good opportunity to think about banking  your scallops for the freezer which are about the best seafood (along with squid) to freeze.

We hope that we can resume  scallop fishing on our return in June, at least a couple days a week, but that will be a ‘wait and see’, depending on scallop availability.

Thanks for sharing Roger, his family and friends!!

1) take the guts out, and wash the rest until there is no sands left.
2) put on some garlic and rice noodle. (You can get it in any Chinese  supermarket)
3) steam them for 10 mins. The pour some soy sauce and pre-heated olive oil.
4) then you can start the feast.

Night 1……..”I gave them a quick marinade of olive oil, sea salt, cracked pepper and lemon zest and juice and then onto a very hot lump charcoal fire to sear them. Had them with grilled asparagus. They are delicious.”

Night 2…….”Here are the seared scallops with shallot, lemon, white wine butter sauce and spinach. They were delicious!”

Sunday & week ahead Update

The weather forecast is keeping us tied up (thankfully), with an endless list of things to do in our spare time haha.  The upcoming week looks like great weather through Thursday for scallops off-the-boat. Friday is looking nasty. It’s all about wind for us – we use Windfinder (Isles of Shoals forecast) if you have any reason or interest, check it out. It gives wind direction/speed, wave height/direction, etc, etc….

This weeks ETA’s  will be variable due to tides and other factors (thinking  more on the7pm-ish side for Monday) …stay tuned daily. landing times can vary and we suggest you check in mid afternoon for any updates(under Trip Updates) or call 603.343.1500.

Check the Daily Catch page for more details on our scallops, pricing and general info/tips…

At this time we would love to hear from  anyone who has bought off-the-boat with feedback on our operations, quality, anything!!
This is extremely important for us to change anything that needs attention and do the best we can within our control.
