Scallop Update

IMG_1384Who can guess what local restaurant owner and chef would be out working the deck harvesting some  Rimrack scallops for their menu today ! ?? The thing here is knowing and supporting others in our community with like minded values who are authentic and passionate about what they do. We hardly ever eat out, but would highly recommend visiting 7th Settlement Brewery in Dover. We did. Did you know they brew their own beer and have catering too! We love the Blackboard Entrees on the menu, where you would find F/V Rimrack scallops when available.

It’s great when we meet up with others who understand and value good food, who support local because it’s our community and our health, which is pretty much all the wonderful people who buy our scallops. We thought customers and fellow fishermen may be interested in a new journal by a talented guy, Ray Larose, who did a story about a day scallop fishing with us….The Nice Guy From Rye .

High Five to Tek-Nique Restaurant!!!

IMG_2522IMG_2538 IMG_2537High Five to Chef Matt of Tek-Nique Restaurant in Bedford NH for knowing who, when and where his scallops come from…not to mention the freshest scallops possible. How many chefs do you know out on the boats. Super cool! If  Chef Matt supports local fishermen, shouldn’t we return the favor!! :)  Doesn’t hurt that Tek-Nique was a 2012 ‘Best of NH’ New Eatery Restaurant OR Editor’s Pick for their ‘Seafood Lasagna !!!

March Scallop Update

Scalloping has been steady this year and currently quality/size/texture, etc has been outstanding. We will soon be headed to the Cape late April for squid fishing. Before we head south, we highly recommend at this time to stock your freezers with our local scallops for a constant supply of these sea jewels. Rimrack scallops are the best of the best…..Shucked with care, cleaned with pride and kissed by the sea! The point is, that last year after returning from squidding (mid July), we weren’t able to resume scallop fishing until Dec15th. As it is with fishing, there are no guarantees, so plan ahead accordingly.Now and the next few weeks are the perfect time to freeze and load the freezers, not to mention the superb quality of the scallops at this time!  In addition to checking the website (rimrackfish.com) or facebook (rimrack fish) for dock sales and updates, we have an Alert List that we use to notify you, for standing orders and dock sales by calling 603.343.1500   Please forward this to family and friends if you think they might be interested in getting fresh… Continue reading

This seems like a good time to share that, Kelsea, our daughter who has fished with Mike for over 15 years, is in the documentary process of telling her story. Check out her facebook page The Last Fisherman’s Daughter to watch her journey !

Rimrack Update & end of season Thanks!!

Team Rimrack, would like to thank all of our lobstermen, tuna & bass fishermen and our wonderful customer friends for a great season. It really has been a blast (although the tuna could have cooperated more) seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The connection and access with off-the-dock herring, whiting, butterfish, squid and scallops to our communities and consumers from NH and throughout New England, has brought us huge enjoyment.

Although it does bring it’s challenges, the rewards of meaningful awareness and access to healthy, fresh seafood is worth it and helps us continue to do what we love . Check out Slow Fish’s Rimrack profile  along with other artisanal fishermen around the world, and why it is so important :)

It has been a wonderful season for catching such great seafood (we liken it to ‘organic’) and developing a terrific way for our neighbors and communities ability to access seafood directly off-the-boat while coming down and enjoying the adventure of seeing NH’s working waterfront at scenic Rye Harbor. We love it that innovative chefs are offering customers some of New Englands’ best kept secrets of ‘underloved’ and ‘lesser known’ fish and seafood!! (We never like to refer to any fish as ‘trash’  fish :)  ENZO has long sent their staff to pick up seafood off the Rimrack on landings :)

Mike and I had some pan seared herring fillet s (skin on) last week and absolutely fell in love with our new best fish friend. (See Aug 30th capts log)picled herring

Next week, Silver Hake (Whiting) (maybe some Butterfish too) will be on the target list for dinner!!
